Generative Art Conference, Day 0

Tonight was registration and reception, hence day “0″. Tomorrow is the start to presentations.

The conference is extremely inclusive, which as its grown, is turning out to be a problem in that with all the presenters who were accepted its left us each with 15 minutes each to present, which is not really a lot of time to get into anything at all.

The good part is that, as in years past, its a highly eclectic group. Sometimes just finding a common vocabulary is a challenge, given its folks from architecture, industrial design, fine arts, and computer science. I feel so at home in such a mixed up group, maybe because the challenge to find common (deep) ground is so much more a challenge.
I never realized how many people know about Eclipse and when you say, “yeah, I wrote that” what kind of mileage that gives you. It seems it really is a big deal!
Milan is all decked out for Christmas and looks very cool (of course)!. As did central London too.
I took the bus in from Lienate so I could watch the city go by; a real luxury when you have the time. I don’t think I remember being this tall in Milan, but maybe the bus just wasn’t representative.
Its odd, and yet exciting, being back here so relatively soon after Patti and mine’s visit in the spring. For that matter its odd Patti not being here with me, I left her the voicemail, in an effected voice, “Da’ling didn’t we say MilAn we’d meet in, I’m hEre but you’re not!”. I could become accustomed to this international lifestyle. I wandered for awhile looking for my hotel, and although you’d think annoying with luggage in tow, it was great to just meander about. We were out for dinner and the addition of everyone’s money came up short so I threw in an extra 10 euros. Someone asked me if that was ok and I said, “I’m in Milan, what the hell do I care?!”.
